General Description

Occupational health and safety legislation and associated national priorities have broadened the importance and impact of OHS legislation. This program is the new entry-level qualification for those who want to be OHS coordinators or supervisors with a major workload in OHS. Graduates of this course will have the qualifications suitable to be a WorkSafe Inspector.

The course is workplace focused, incorporating supported work based projects allowing you to introduce and enhance OHS policies to your business. You will gain practical skills and your industry will gain ideas, policies and practices.

Duration Options

This part time course can generally be completed in one year. This course is designed so that there is time between the workshops to undertake work place projects, readings and activities. Bendigo TAFE staff provide optional one-on-one assistance and work based support on nominated afternoons and evenings between the workshops.

These workshops are conducted once per month.

Prerequisites of Qualifications / Experience

You should have good levels of literacy and numeracy to study at Certificate IV level, and ideally a workplace in which the concepts of Occupational Health and Safety could be applied.

Key Study Areas LAW AND MANAGING OHS: Designed to assure compliance with OHS law and implementation of a systematic approach to managing OHS.

COMMUNICATION: Contribute to the implementation of the OHS consultation process.

HAZARD MANAGEMENT: Identify hazards and assess OHS risks, then contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risks.

Employment Opportunities

This course will assist to consolidate exisiting employment arrangements or may be used to create career path opportunities in either an OHS specialist field or as an important qualification to take into other industry roles.
