General Description This course will offer you a broad range of study in garment design and construction, pattern making, fibres and fabrics and quality production methods as they apply to the fashion and garment construction industry. 
Accreditation National Accreditation This Course / Qualification has TAFE National Recognition.
Duration Options This course may be studied full time over one year.  Part time study may also be available.

Prerequisites of Qualifications / Experience You must have one of the following prerequisites:
  • satisfactorily completed year 12 (or an approved equivalent course)
  • be a mature applicant (over 18 years of age and have left school for 12 months)
  • currently working in the clothing and fashion industry.

If you have completed the Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology units completed may be credited towards this qualification.  

All applicants must apply through VTAC at the VTAC website.

Other Entry Requirements All applicants are required to attend an interview where you will need to submit a folio of your own work and undertake a series of assessment tasks. The folio must include a range of garments or related items which demonstrate your garment construction ability. The assessment tasks will include: drawing, sewing, literacy and numeracy tasks. Applicants will also be expected to complete a questionnaire.

Employment Opportunities At the completion of this certificate, you will have the skills to gain employment as an assistant designer, production assistant, dressmaker or machinist in a large or small clothing or fashion business.
Further Study Options On successful completion of this course you may enrol in the Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology LMT50307.
Assessment You will be assessed as part of this course.
Packaging Rules Twenty four units are required to complete this qualification.
Recognition of Prior Learning Recognition of your current qualifications and prior learning: Bendigo TAFE has processes to give you credit for relevant units from your prior study, and to assess your prior learning against units in a course.
