Q: How do I apply to study at BRIT?
A: Most courses involve direct application to the institute via an Expression of Interest form. Expression of Interest forms can be downloaded from the BRIT website by visiting the Downloads section or obtained by phoning 1300 554 248.

In some cases, when applying for a full time place in the first year of a Diploma or Advanced Diploma, you may need to apply through the VTAC system.

Q: If I have a disability can I get assistance at BRIT?
A:

If you are eligible, assistance is available to students through the Disability Support Program, which offers a range of services and facilities to students with a physical, sensory, learning, medical, intellectual, acquired or psychiatric disability.

Q: What does mature age student mean?
A: Within the TAFE system, a mature age student is 18 years of age, or over, and has been out of full time schooling for at least 12 months. Mature age applicants are not required to have completed or attempted a Year 12 qualification.

A: You will need to contact the BRIT Personal or Career’s Counsellor, who can discuss your options. For an appointment, contact BRIT Customer Information by phoning 1300 554 248.

Q: What is TAFE?
A: TAFE study is vocational education and training - meaning that TAFE courses teach the skills and knowledge required for specific employment outcomes within a variety of industry sectors. Courses are practical and hands-on and are designed to meet government standards and specific industry needs.

At BRIT, you can choose from 400 full time and part time courses. You will also benefit from: no HECS fees, small class sizes, great facilities and resources, flexible study options, career and personal counselling, child care, counselling and other student services, strong links with industry, interesting work placements, as well as credit transfers from many courses to university degrees.

Q: What is VTAC?
A:

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) acts on behalf of participating TAFE Institutes, Universities and independent tertiary colleges, to facilitate and coordinate the selection process. VTAC receive applications and documentation from applicants, process them and forwarded them to the chosen institutions.

Once an institution makes an offer for a course place, VTAC sends an offer letter to the applicant.

Q: Does completing an Expression of Interest Form mean I have enrolled?
A: No, the form only registers your interest in a course. The course coordinator will notify you of the formal application process at a later date.

Q: When do I have to pay my fees?
A: Course fees are due upon enrolment prior to commencement of a course.

Q: Can anyone complete an apprenticeship?
A: No, you must have an employer within the required area of study to complete an apprenticeship. If you do not have an employer, there may be a suitable pre-apprenticeship course on offer at BRIT that may assist you in gaining the employment required to complete an apprenticeship. Contact the relevant course coordinator or Student Services for advice.
